Our splendid 2005 concert raised over $2,700 for the Accelerated Cure Project.
Overview: Why this concert is happeningRecent research seeking a cure for Multiple Sclerosis has been enthusiastic, active, and rather random. Art Mellor is an Arlington, MA resident whose response to receiving a diagnosis of MS has been to seek to build an organized framework for this research, focusing on discovering the cause (or causes) of the disease (or diseases). The Boston Cure Project is the remarkable organization he founded in 2001. In 2005 the BCP has gone national! With the support of the John Hancock Long Term Care Group, the BCP is becoming the Accelerated Cure Project <http://www.acceleratedcure.org/>, recognizing that Boston is not the only city where MS exits - and recognizing that MS is not the only disease that can benefit from Art's vision of an organized plan for accelerating the research on multi-faceted diseases. Why does this subject matter so much to me? I was diagnosed with MS in 1988, and am now using a cane full-time. But I can recognize and support a good idea when I see it. And I can still organize a concert - and sing. Flyers: This year we have two versions of the flier available, so please download one in color or black & white, and share it around! Ticket sales:For details on what we need each year in a Ticket Sales Director, visit the LeedsCarroll Accelerated Cure concert web-site home page. How many tickets can each performer sell? Who can sell the most? We're thinking of holding a contest among the performers in 2005 - but others are welcome to compete as well. What's a good prize? To purchase tickets for this year's concert, contact Ruth at 617 734-7820 or SingtoCureMStix@hotmail.com .
Note: Remind friends who Cry Poor that this is not merely a concert, but a fund-raiser for a very worthy cause. They get good music and the satisfaction of making a donation to the Accelerated Cure Project! Fundraising ideas:1) We’d like to ask people, whether they can attend the concert or not, to “Sponsor a Singer.” Visit our Sponsor-a-Singer page to download PDF or Word copies of sign-up sheets and information that you can use among your friends, colleagues and family. 2) To make electronic donations using a secure credit-card web site:
3) Program ads.We actually have two categories of ads - visit the attached sponsorship/ads page for more info. Note: even though the program is at the printer's, we still plan to include an errata and additions sheet - so you can still sell ads for the program! In fact, sponsors can see their names placed on the ACP concert web page any time. Venue: We had such success at the Pleasant Street Congregational Church (75 Pleasant Street, Arlington, MA) in October 2003 that we've decided to return there this year. More information will be here as it comes in. Rehearsal Tuesday, October 18, 7-9pm We have the Pleasant Street Church reserved for a rehearsal the Tuesday evening before the concert. Other rehearsals can be planned at other venues, before or after that date, and we can also arrive a bit early at the church on the day of the concert to run a few things as needed. Sarah Nels (sarah at acceleratedcure.org - our ACP contact) will also be putting usher, ticket sales, etc volunteers through their paces that Tuesday evening - if you know someone who might want to attend as a volunteer, let her know!
